Let's start with the basics. In order to remove your attic's blown-in insulation, you will absolutely need an insulation vacuum, insulation vacuum bags, and at least one other person to assist you. Please keep the following in mind:

• You can rent an insulation vacuum from a company like Robin Rents or Sunbelt Rental

• You can purchase insulation vacuum bags from them as well

• You will need to purchase high-quality, ethanol-free gasoline

• You will need to rent the correct amount of hose for your home's set up

• You will need a 2nd person outside the entire time watching the vacuum (because sometimes, things like nails can penetrate the insulation vacuum bag and can become very dangerous projectiles

• While you are up the attic, you will need some form of safety platform to stand on, like the AtticBoard

• If you see any rodent droppings or anything hazardous, you may want to contact a biohazard cleanup professional like Bio-One or pest control company like Red Hawk Pest Control

• You will want to work your way from the farthest point of the attic, to the attic opening

• Depending on how much insulation you have to remove, you will want to budget 1-2 days

• If doing this in the Summer, you will be taking multiple breaks (since the attic can get up to 150 degrees)

• You will need to figure out a way to dispose of the giant 75 cu ft vacuum bags when done
